There is a huge controversy now in online dating scene relating to the background check quandary. A lot of the states are even setting about proposing legislation that would call for online dating sites to do background checks on all of its members or specifically state so if they do not. The all over controversy started when the online dating scene was still in its infancy. It all began when one website signed an exclusive declaration with the net’s most prominent background checking service so that its members could be certain that they were not discoursing with outlaws. I suppose at first it seemed fine thought as it was done in order to protect online daters from sharing personal data with people that were registered sex offenders or from others who may have committed fraud or other types of deplorable acts. However, this particular website that started campaigning legislation that would demand online dating websites to perform background checks.

This website has an exclusive contract. So presumably they would then force other internet sites to use more expensive background checking tools, which consequently caused a significant increase in subscription. This caused a bit of controversy and also brought about a lot of free advertising for the initial background checking website. To say the least, it was their way of rising above the competition. Unfortunately, however, this did not come to light until quite a few politicians had already hopped on with the background checking ideology.

Before dating anyone you meet online checking their background may prove beneficial. It may prevent online scams from reoccurring and help people feel safe and sound about using online dating websites. All the same, it may also appear to some as a type of invasion of privacy and a lot people will stave off online dating websites because they do not wish to have a background check and some people do make a change for the better.

This situation is certain in the media news for many years to come. Currently, a couple of states have already passed a law that requires background checks. Users and online dating websites do have mixed feelings about this and before you say your opinion you should be sure to comprehend both sides of the controversy. Making background checks required could make online dating services better for everyone. However, on the contrary it could also mean that the free services would no longer be accessible and subscription services would be much more expensive. To learn more about the online dating website background checks that are imposed in your state, you should to contact your local legislator’s office and ask questions. You should also let them know what you thing by voicing your opinion and letting them know exactly what you want or don’t.

This is interesting as here in the good old UK we have cameras everywhere, watching our every move 24/7… apparently for our own safety. We have ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras at the side of roads monitoring where your car is at any given moment… again for our safety so that the government can track ‘bad guys’. However, we also have convicted sex offenders returned to our communities and PROTECTED by our laws so that they remain annonymous.

Perhaps it’s time for governments to begin coming clean regarding what is implemented to track us, control us or protect us. I for one currently don’t believe a word they say…
